What is CBD?

Cannabidiol or CBD is a chemical compound found in the cannabis plant.  CBD has many health benefits such as reducing anxiety, manages stress, improve sleep, reducing inflammation and pain, preventing seizures and regulating the immune system.  CBD is non-intoxicating and does not make you “high” like THC does, making it completely safe and a healthy choice for your well-being.

Can CBD help reduce alcohol intake?

Researchers are studying the effects of CBD for people with alcohol use disorder.  According to studies done with animals and humans in 2019 it suggested that CBD may reduce alcohol intake for people suffering from AUD.  It also showed that CBD may provide neuroprotective effects for any damage to the brain that may result from alcohol abuse.  In the research, CBD is combined with FDA-approved drug call naltrexone in treatment for AUD showing that it may yield a better result in reducing alcohol consumption.  In 2021 a study involving 120 people showed that people who took CBD for 5 days had less drinking days and consume less alcohol suggesting that CBD use may help reduce alcohol consumption.  We know that CBD interacts with the endocannabinoid system in your body.  When endocannabinoid is activated it helps to relax your brain and by doing so it lowers stress and reduces anxiety.  Short and long term consumption of alcohol may have an effect on your endocannabinoid system too.  It may affect your mood system and cause a disruption or changes in mood and behavior.

Can CBD help with alcohol-related liver damage?

Heavy consumption of alcohol can lead to liver damage and there is a medical condition for this called, alcohol-related liver disease (ARLD).  The condition can result in liver damage and potentially live threatening. Apart from CBD helping to reduce consumption of alcohol it can also prevent liver inflammation as CBD has inflammation property which can help your body fight and heal inflammation.  More studies on humans are needed to fully understand its potential on preventing liver damage.

Can you use CBD with alcohol and are there any side effects?

CBD and alcohol can interact with one another if you take them within four to eight hours of each other.  When you mix the two substances together it can make the effects stronger and longer lasting which in some cases could be uncomfortable and unpleasant to some.  For example, when you take CBD it relaxes your body and keeps you calm, but when you add alcohol to the mix it can make it more intense.  Some people feel extremely sedated.  If you drink then you should avoid using CBD for the time being until the effects of alcohol wares out, but if you are using CBD medicinally then you ought to give priority to CBD for your well-being.  You should try our Mellow CBD Oil.  We have two flavor options Natural and Orange and our CBD Oil is THC free.
