CBD: A Friend To Hangovers?

CBD: A Friend To Hangovers?

If you drink socially or if you are the type to have one too many drinks then it is most definitely possible that you have had an experience with a hangover. Hangovers can be unpleasant and nasty and definitely will ruin your day. Today, we will be discussing what a hangover is and what it does to your body. We will also find out if CBD is able to cure hangovers and how.

Hangover is a condition that occurs when you drink too much alcohol. How much alcohol is too much? It is hard to say-each individual's level of tolerance is different. Hangovers often take place in the morning.

Hangovers come with multiple unpleasant symptoms like fatigue, weakness, feeling thirsty and dry mouth, headaches, cramps, inadequate sleep, abdominal pain, mood disturbances, irritability, anxiety and sensitivity to noise and lights.

Let's get to the root cause of what causes a hangover. Yes, of course drinking too much alcohol, but why do you have a hangover? There are various factors that lead to hangover:

Alcohol forces your body to produce too much urine. Due to excess alcohol in your body, you need to urinate more often resulting in loss of liquid and can cause dehydration.

Alcohol triggers the immune system to produce inflammatory responses which can result in physical symptoms like lack of concentration, impact on memory, decreased in appetite and lack in motivation to do daily activities.

Alcohol irritates the lining of your stomach. Alcohol will increase stomach acid and delay digestion and emptying of the stomach resulting in abdominal pain, nausea or vomiting.

Alcohol can cause a drop in blood sugar. When you blood sugar falls too low it may result in fatigue, mood disturbances, shakiness and tremors and worse case scenario seizures too.

Alcohol cause blood vessels to expand and may lead to headaches.

Alcohol may make you sleepy, but it prevents you from deep sleep and makes you wake up often during the night.

Hangover is definitely not a enjoyable moment, but don't worry it normally last for 24 hours and while some effects may last longer, but consider cutting down on consumption of alcohol or even better if you can stop the habit for good! But if you have to drink then avoid wine or dark alcoholic beverages, never drink on an empty stomach, stay hydrated by drinking a lot of water when you are drinking alcohol.

Even though there is no set cure for hangover, but there are things you can do to lessen the symptoms and bringing back the balance to life. Three are traditional methods and there are the CBD way. People have started using CBD to help with hangovers as CBD can interact with your endocannabinoid system (ECS) to promote healing and bringing balance back to your body system.

Things you can do to help manage hangover:

Fluids. Drinking a lot of fluids, because when drink alcohol your body can become dehydrated. Water or electrolytes drinks are preferred options for liquid.

Consume carbohydrates. Hangovers may make you not want to eat anything, but eating carbohydrates like bread or banana not only helps you to combat fatigue, but it helps your body to raise the blood sugar.

Vitamins: add vitamins like Zinc and vitamin B that are found in eggs, green vegetables and nuts will calm your hangover.

Caffeine can be helpful with a hangover. Caffeine can open up the blood vessels to ease the headaches. But be mindful to consume caffeine in small amounts as caffeine like alcohol could dehydrate your body.

Painkillers or anti-inflammatory medications can help ease headaches and aches caused from high levels of alcohol.

Now, that was the traditional methods in alleviating hangovers, but what about alternative methods like Cannabidiol (CBD)? CBD is a chemical compound found in cannabis and hemp plants. These chemical compounds are called cannabinoids. Two most well known cannabinoids are THC and CBD. Both have very similar medicinal properties, but THC has psychoactive properties which could alter your state of mind and make you feel high while CBD does not have any intoxication effects.

During a hangover your body may experience headaches, pain and overall discomfort. CBD can very much ease these conditions. Researchers have shown that cannabinoids including CBD interact with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) that have receptors all over your body. ECS are responsible for regulating mood, sleep, appetite, immune system, pain, stress and anxiety. The endocannabinoid system's main responsibility is to bring balance to your body and mind and with CBD added, it will enhance a more positive effect.

Using CBD products like Mellow CBD Oil made from CBD Isolate and Mellow Full Spectrum CBD Oil available from Mellow Organic can help bring:

  1. Calmness in the mind and body during a hangover.

  2. Help bring balance to your mood.

  3. Relief pain in joint areas or muscles.

  4. Improve sleep.

  5. Maintain your sleep/wake cycle.

  6. Lower anxiety and stress.

  7. Help reduce any feelings of nausea or vomiting.

  8. Restore your immune system.

  9. CBD can enhance anti-inflammatory properties to help with abdominal pain and other discomforts.

There are other factors that you should consider when using CBD to alleviate symptoms of hangover:

Choose CBD products that are made with a high amount of CBD and very low and if possible no THC. THC has psychoactive properties and you want to bring stability and balance to your mind and body. CBD can do that. What you definitely don't need is something that can alter your mind cause you are already having a hangover.

Start with low dosage and increase dosage during the day if you think it is needed.

Consider your body type. Everyone is different so body size does matter when it comes to consumption of medication. If you weigh more you may need more CBD.

Monitor the impact of CBD. Notice how each dose works for you. Finding the right formula for yourself is key to having a successful experience with CBD.

Different methods of consuming CBD matter. Find what works for you. Smoking CBD or vaping may have a faster effect, but it does not last as long as dropping CBD oil under your tongue. You can also drop CBD oil with your food or take CBD edibles like gummies to get your CBD fixed as long as you are aware of the amount you are consuming.

CBD is available as Full Spectrum like Mellow Full Spectrum CBD Oil which contains all the cannabinoids like THC and CBD and also has terpenes and flavonoids. Full spectrum is considered to be the most complete offering from the cannabis plant. Broad Spectrum is similar to Full Spectrum, but without THC. CBD Isolate is the purest form as it has been processed and extracted to include only CBD and does not have any THC or cannabinoids. Mellow CBD Oil is our CBD Isolate offering and available in Natural and Orange flavors.

You can also use topicals like our CBD-infused topical with vanilla scent, Mellow CBD Soothing Balm to give yourself a massage for relaxation and promote stress-free calmness.
