Can CBD Help Restless Leg Syndrome?

Can CBD Help Restless Leg Syndrome?

Restless Leg Syndrome (RSL), is a medical condition that causes you to have an uncontrollable urge to move the legs from experiencing unpleasant sensation.

The symptoms mostly occur during the evening or at night while sitting or lying down.

Wilis-Ekbom disease is another name for RSL.

RSL can happen to people from all age groups and tends to get worse as you become older.

RSL interrupts your sleeping pattern and tends to interfere with your daily activities.

When you sit or lie down for an extended period of time it can trigger RSL.

You can relief the sensation by stretching, pacing, walking or wiggling your feet.

People with RSL may experience periodic limb movement which causes the legs to twitch and kick throughout the night.

Can CBD help with RSL?

There has been a lot of research done on the effects of CBD and RSL, but we believe people with RSL can definitely benefit from CBD.

The Center for Restless Leg Syndrome at John Hopkins believe that RSL has a close link to disruption of dopamine's pathways in the brain.

A study conducted with cannabis (not CBD) showed that chronic cannabis consumption interfere with dopamine synthesis capacity therefore resulting in the inability to produce dopamine. But we know that cannabis may include a high amount of THC and THC can affect some of the brain's activity like cognitive functions, automation or psychosis. CBD, on the other hand does not have psychoactive properties and is more suitable for RSL.

Amore recent studies conducted in 2021 and 2022 showed that people who used CBD for RSL choose to do so for the fact that CBD has anti-anxiety and stress relief properties and it also promotes improvement of sleep.

Benefits of CBD for RSL:

  • Promotes sleep

  • Regulate sleep/wake cycle

  • Stress relief

  • Reduce anxiety

  • Pain relief

  • Anti-inflammation

  • Manage tremors and twitching

  • Improve the immune system

  • Alleviate mood

  • Antidepressants

  • Promote motivation

When choosing the CBD for RSL we strictly recommend:

Choose CBD products that are made from CBD Isolate like Mellow 900 mg CBD Oil. CBD Isolate contains only CBD and no other compounds from the cannabis plant. Broad Spectrum CBD is also another option which contains CBD and other cannabinoids without THC. But do note that broad Spectrum may still contain traces of THC. It's important to avoid THC when dealing with RSL.

Only buy from reputable companies with independent third-party lab tests and have Certificate of Analysis readily available.

If you are using CBD oil then drop CBD oil under your tongue 30-60 minutes before bedtime to help you have a good night sleep.

You can take CBD twice a day to manage stress and anxiety that may occur from this illness.

Remember to start with a low dosage and increase the amount if needed.

Remember to be patient! Your body needs some time to interact and get used to CBD in your system. It usually takes 1 to 2 weeks to start seeing a difference in your life.

Mellow Organic currently has three products: Mellow 900mg CBD Oil made from CBD Isolate. Mellow 1,800 mg Full Spectrum CBD Oil is our high potency CBD option and Mellow CBD Soothing Balm for those that enjoy a CBD-infused vanilla scent balm for relaxation and pain relief.
