Fun fact: the third Monday of January is often called Blue Monday. Blue Mondays are often thought to be the most depressing day of the year. The idea was initially introduced in a 2005 company press release, where they asserted to have determined the scientific date through an "equation". This calculation considers weather conditions and is therefore specific to the Northern Hemisphere. The term Blue Monday was created by Cliff Arnall and his intentions were never to bring negativity to the term, but instead to inspire people to take action and to be more creative.
Whether blue Monday is real or not is not the point here. There will be days when everything seems impossible. There will be days when you wish time would stop and you could just stay in bed instead of facing the world. CBD can help make things better. CBD won't magically make everything disappear, but instead it will make the journey easier and more manageable. Here's how:
CBD For Depression
Symptoms of depression may manifest as a persistent low mood, feelings of unhappiness, low self-esteem, or tearfulness. They can lead to a loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities, social withdrawal, fatigue, and sleep disturbances. In severe cases, depression may also trigger suicidal tendencies.
CBD potentially interacts positively with serotonin, a hormone in the brain that plays a crucial role in various bodily functions, particularly affecting a person's emotional well-being and happiness. Low levels of serotonin are linked to depressive symptoms.
A study investigated the impact of CBD on individuals experiencing seasonal depression. Participants were either administered 400mg of CBD or a placebo. Researchers noted that those who received CBD reported lower levels of anxiety compared to those who received the placebo.
CBD For Anxiety
Anxiety, stemming from stress, manifests as a sense of uneasiness about potential outcomes. For some individuals, managing intense anxiety is a daily challenge, often indicative of conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), or social anxiety disorder.
In a study examining the relationship between CBD and sleep quality, findings suggested a potential reduction in anxiety levels. The study involved 72 participants, with 47 reporting anxiety issues and 25 experiencing poor sleep quality. Each participant received a daily 25mg dose of CBD and subsequently provided feedback on their experiences. Results indicated that 79.2% reported decreased anxiety levels, while 66.7% noted an improvement in their sleep quality within the first month of the study.
CBD For Stress
Our bodies naturally produce a hormone called cortisol, which is responsible for our feelings of stress. When we encounter fear or a stressful situation, our brain signals our nerve and hormone systems. This triggers the release of adrenaline and cortisol, causing a spike in blood pressure and heart rate.
Cortisol plays a crucial role in our body's stress response. It increases the glucose in the bloodstream and makes substances available to repair tissue. Cortisol also influences our mood, motivation, and fear response.
Research has shown that CBD, a compound found in the cannabis plant, may help manage stress and anxiety. In one study, male participants with Parkinson's disease were given CBD before undergoing a simulated public speaking test. The researchers reported that an oral dose of 300 mg of CBD, taken 90 minutes before the test, helped reduce the participants' anxiety and stress levels.
Potential of CBD for stress managements includes:
Reducing anxiety and stress
Improve mood and sleep
Promote relaxation
People often choose to take CBD in various forms like oils, edibles, or vaping. Each method has its own benefits, and what works best can vary from person to person.
