CBD Oil and Herpes

Herpes Simplex Virus or more commonly known as Herpes is a commonly found infection that causes painful blisters and ulcers.

Herpes spreads through skin-and-skin contact and even though it is treatable it is not curable.

There are two types of herpes:

Herpes Simplex Virus-1 (HSV-1) spreads by oral contact and leads to infection around the mouth area and we call this oral herpes or also known as cold sores. HSV-1 is the most common type of herpes. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimated that 3.7 billion people under the age of 50 worldwide have HSV-1.

Herpes Simplex Virus-2 (HSV-2) spreads by sexual contact and inflicts genital herpes. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that there are 491 million between the ages of 15-49 worldwide that have HSV-2. HSV-2 are the leading cause of genetial herpes and infection of genital herpes is more at risk of HIV infection.

Most people that have been infected with herpes go unrecognized and there are no symptoms or very mild symptoms. Symptoms of herpes include painful blisters or ulcers, fever, body aches, headaches and swollen lymph near the infection.

Treatments for herpes often include antiviral medication like: acyclovir, famciclovir and valacyclovir to decrease symptoms and the severity of the infection.

How can CBD Oil help treat herpes?

There have not been any direct studies on the impact of CBD on herpes, but research has found that CBD interacts with the hotel's Endocannabinoid System (ECS) which is an essential physiological system that helps maintain our health. Researchers believe that CBD interacts with the CB2 receptors in the immune system. When your immune system is weakened by infection or illness, CBD can enhance the functions of the immune system and help strengthen it. CBD can also help regulate the immune system to stop it from over reacting when it is being attacked by viral infections.

Researchers have also found that CBD can reduce the production of proinflammatory cytokines which can prevent herpes attack.
