CBD Oil For Surgery Recovery

If you have upcoming surgery, you may consider exploring CBD as a potential aid for managing pain, discomfort, inflammation, wounds, sleep, and mood. It's important to monitor inflammation post-surgery, as acute inflammation from surgical injuries can heighten pain sensitivity. CBD, a natural compound derived from cannabis plants, is recognized for its various health benefits, including enhancing sleep, alleviating anxiety and stress, reducing pain and inflammation, boosting immunity, and promoting a positive mood.

There are three types of CBD to look into:  full spectrum, broad spectrum and CBD isolate.

Full Spectrum contains the original phytochemical profile of the cannabis hemp plant.  Full spectrum contains CBD, THC, minor cannabinoids, terpenes and flavonoids.  Mellow Organic offers Mellow Full Spectrum 1,800 mg CBD Oil

Broad Spectrum is the next best option to full spectrum if you are looking for the full effects of CBD, but without THC.

CBD Isolate is the third type that has been extracted including only CBD without other cannabinoids and THC.  CBD Isolate is ideal for people who want to enjoy the benefits of CBD without having to worry about THC.  Mellow Organic offers a premium high standard lab tested CBD Isolate, Mellow CBD Oil that comes in 900 mg CBD available in Natural and Orange flavors.

This article provides insight into how CBD can enhance your post-surgery recovery. However, it is crucial to consult with your doctors and surgeons before incorporating CBD into your treatment regimen. CBD has the potential to interact with medications and may have associated side effects.

Here are what science have to say about CBD for surgery recovery:

Researchers have pointed out that CBD can help reduce pain management after kidney surgery.

A clinical study published  in 2019 showed that CBD and other cannabinoids are just as effective as antibiotics during post-surgery.

Surgeons reported in SASMAM during their meeting in 2019 that they were considering CBD as a medication for post-surgical pain control.

CBD should not be mixed with other medications as CBD and some medications especially painkillers can compete for the same enzymes dyeing metabolism and may cause negative effects.  Using CBD and other medications separately is a better choice.

We know that CBD is not the traditional choice for medication.  Doctors and surgeons will opt for painkillers like NSAID, opioids or other analgesics.  Yes, they may be effective in pain management, but using these medications in the long run can cause more damage than good.

Using NSAID causes abdominal pain, ulcers, gas, hypertension, heartburn, diarrhea, nausea, constipation and vomiting.  Opioids on the other hand can cause nausea, vomiting, impaired cognitive function, urinary retention, constipation, drowsiness, and impaired respiratory functions.  The troubling thing about opioids if left unchecked may lead to addiction and dependence.  Opioid addiction today is a medical epidemic in the United States.

The good and the bad about using CBD for surgery recovery

  • Non-addictive

  • Contain no withdrawal syndrome

  • CBD is non-psychoactive and does not intoxicate you.

  • Often CBD products may include up to 0.3% THC, but CBD products made from CBD Isolate have been refined to include only CBD and other elements from the cannabis plant.

  • CBD is available as oil/tinctures, capsules, vaping oil, gummies, edibles and flowers.

  • Some side effects that may affect some users are dry mouth, drowsiness, fatigue and stomach ache.

  • CBD has shown to have therapeutic effects for animals and humans during surgery recovery.

  • CBD itself can help to improve sleep, pain relief, inflammation, enhance mood, reduce stress and anxiety.

  • CBD safety profile is safer than NSAID and opioid.

  • There is not enough research being done on CBD in the past.  We are just beginning to understand the effects of CBD.

  • There is no guideline or recommendation on the dosage for CBD.

  • It is recommended to start with a low dosage and increase the amount needed.

  • CBD oil can contain up to 35% bioactivity.  Vaping CBD may be as high as 56%  Bioactivity is the amount your body can observe after CBD has entered the bloodstream.
